When I found you... Chapter 16(Jaevon Fanfic)

The shouts and laughter died down instantaneously. A sudden lull filled the air.

Devon was caught holding the nozzle of the water hose which she was aiming at Sam who on the other hand, was carrying a bucket full of water and was about to heave its content to Devon.

Devon and Sam had just finished painting one of the guest rooms and both decided to wash up outside when Sam suddenly splashed Devon with water. This started a series of water fight which resulted to their drenched look. It was exactly in this state that James found them…

“What do you think you’re doing?” James snapped.

Devon stiffened upon hearing the voice that so often haunts her dreams. She turned around and upon seeing James’ face, an unexpected rush of happiness warmed her heart.

“James, you’re here!” Devon beamed. She couldn’t understand what she was feeling. She’s supposed to be angry at him for what happened the last time they’d met. Instead, all she could think of was the man who was hardened by a terrible past.

Their eyes met and for a moment nothing else seemed to matter but the longing of seeing each other.

She’s even more beautiful than I remember, James thought.

On his way here, he rehearsed apologies in his mind. But now, he can’t seem to recall one damn word of them. All he knew is that he missed her… a lot.

“Hello, James,” Sam greeted and placed the bucket down.

James reluctantly directed his attention to Sam. He fixed his cold stare at the man who ruined his plans of reconciliation.

“Why are you here?” James said bitingly.

“I’ll explain everything later,” Sam replied and turned to Devon.

“You change first. We’ll meet you at the study room.”

Devon was confused of what’s going on that she just obeyed without a word.

What was James doing here? Wasn’t he supposed to be in Australia?

Somehow he seemed different…

And what’s with Sam’s casual greeting to James? And the cold reply of James?

She stopped her musings and went upstairs to change.

Devon was heading to the study room and still, questions kept playing on her mind.

As she was nearing the study room, she heard voices arguing.

“Why are you here? Since when did you become my secretary?” James asked sarcastically.

“Your father sent me here in exchange for your secretary. Her expertise is more needed in the new project that will be launched by the end of the month.” Sam answered.

“Really. Am I supposed to buy that? You, Samuel Sy, the most trusted man of the President of Force Global Corporations would come here and do this minor kind of work? Huh! Who you kidding? You very well know what my father’s up to. I bet you were sent here to check on me in my father’s attempt to control my life!” James exploded.

“No, James. Your father is trying his best to make it up to you! He realized his mistake.”

“Well, he realized it too late… 27 years too late.”James said with a dead finality and stormed out of the room.

Devon who’s been listening behind the door, heard James’ approach. She hurriedly went out of the way when James harshly opened the door. She saw him walk out of the house and disappeared into the darkening sky. She followed him, afraid of what James might do.

James bristling with anger went down to the shore to compose himself. He stopped and faced the setting sun. He was so deep in thought that he didn’t notice Devon behind him.

“James…” Devon called reluctantly. James was a little surprised upon seeing her.

“Hey.” James acknowledged and smiled sweetly at her.

Gawd, she looks beautiful, he thought achingly.

Images of her in my dreams could not give justice on how lovely she really is right now.

I can’t believe I only thought of her as beautiful… she’s a goddess. James tried to compose himself and looked at her with tenderness.

“You must be wondering why I’m here and not in Australia.” He said sheepishly.

“Kinda…” She said, smiling a little and looked at the sun already descending.

“I know I’ve said and done a lot of awful things to you…”

James looked for the right words to explain and apologize to her. He moved a little closer to Devon, touched her shoulder and turned her to face him. Devon looked up at him, mesmerized by his intense gaze and felt heady with his sensuous masculine scent. James slowly traced his fingers along her shoulders and neck, and cupped her face.

“I don’t know where to begin…” James said seriously. “… but I know how I want it to end.” He whispered tenderly. He slowly bent down his head, his eyes fixed intently at her delectable lips.

Devon who was captivated by his stare, found it hard to breathe.

He’s going to kiss me! He’s going to kiss me! Devon thought anxiously.

Anticipating his kiss, she closed her eyes as she felt his warm breath against her lips.
