When I found you... Chapter 11(Jaevon Fanfic)

Fretzie was packing her clothes when her phone rang.

“Hey mom! Yep, we’re coming home. Alright, I’ll tell them to have dinner there.” Fretzie said and ended the call.

“Hey guys, my mom want us to go directly to our house for dinner. She wants to see you.” Fretzie said smiling.

“Sure, I’d love to.” Yen spoke, looking up from perusing her luggage.

“I’d love to come.” Devon answered, getting her toiletries in the bathroom.

They continued packing their things and went down after to eat their lunch. There they met the boys and joined them for lunch. The guys offered to take them to the airport since Ryan brought his hummer.

James was trying hard to have the chance to talk to Devon but she never even looked his way. He was getting frustrated because Ryan kept on intervening on his plans.

The girls excused themselves to get their things. The boys waited outside the hotel while Ryan went to take the car out.

They then rode the hummer and just talk all the way to the airport. They give each other their numbers and addresses so that they can still contact each other for the days to come.

They arrived at the airport and waited for a while for their flight.

It’s now or never, James said to himself and walked over to Devon.

“Devon, can I talk to you for a minute?”

Devon was surprised who was reading a magazine and looked up at James.

“Oh... okay.”

She stood up and they walked together near a food stand. James looked rather annoyed and agitated she observed.

“What is it?”

James looked at her with a menacing look that unnerved her.

“Why are you avoiding me? Did I do something to you… made you upset somehow?” James asked with furrowed eyebrows.

Devon looked up at him incredulously. So he asked a different question and this has been playing on his mind since last night.

“Do I make you nervous? Perhaps… you felt something… for me?”

“What? I don’t!” she answered rather abruptly that made James smile and seemed to change his mood.

“Oh yes you do. Don’t deny it.” James said with now a teasing tone in his voice.

“I’m not avoiding you! Why would I? And I don’t have to deny anything!” she said heatedly that seemed to elevate James’ mood.

“You’re blushing.”

“I’m not.” She hissed and seemed to fail at hiding her embarrassment since she now felt so hot. She looked away from James and appeared to look irritated.

James held her chin and pulled it towards him.

“It’s alright if you won’t say it now. There are plenty of time for that.” He said with a grin.

“What do you mean? What are you talking about?” She asked looking baffled.

James smiled a rather teasing smile.

“I wouldn’t allow this to be our last meeting. I’ll see you in Manila after a few days.”

Devon looked at him in a skeptical look and was left speechless.

Their flight was announced over the speaker and James led her back to the others. They said their goodbyes and James kissed Devon on the cheek and promised she will hear from him.

Devon took a last glance at James. She would have laughed if it wasn’t for the fast beating of her heart. She saw James grinning like an idiot and waving at her. She turned back and caught the meaningful looks of her friends that indicate they saw the look on James’ face.

They seated themselves on the right side of the plane. Devon was seated near the window and Yen on the aisle part. Devon was oblivious of her friends. She was still thinking about James’ parting words.

What does he mean about that?

Is he gonna call me? Well, I did give my number…

But, why is he so confident that we would see each other more often?

Devon sighed and closed her eyes.

They arrived at Fretzie’s house. They were greeted by Fretzie’s mom and welcomed them to the house. Devon, who has been agitated since they landed, jumped when her phone rang.

Could it be him? Devon thought nervously.

I don’t wanna answer it… no.

She ignored the ringing and left her bag in the living room and went over to the kitchen to help Fretzie prepare the food. They had a wonderful dinner with Fretzie’s mom and after a while left for their homes.

The next morning, Devon received a message from her boss that she should wear her best today for they have a big client and they liked her designs and is planning to hire her.

Devon was rather excited. She took a bath and checked her closet for the appropriate wardrobe for the upcoming meeting. She chose a plain grey suit and tied her hair in a high, loose ponytail. She was debating if she should put some make-up or not and decided to choose the latter. She looked herself up in the mirror and when she’s satisfied she set off to work.

She arrived at the company with all smiles. Everyone greeted her and seemed to have a really good relationship with her. She went to the 11th floor and went directly to her boss’ office.

“Oh, there you are, Ms. Gutierrez.” Her boss said with a big smile.

“Good morning, sir. Who will I be serving for the coming months?” Devon said with confidence, stopping in front of the desk and facing her boss.

“Please take a seat, Ms. Gutierrez. They’re a big client. Actually, I only spoke to his secretary. He came from Australia and was looking for someone to renew the design of his house here.”

“Hhmm, how big is the house? Does he want to change every part of the house?”

“Well, that’s what you will be talking in about two hours. He’s coming here or rather he’s gonna meet you in Tous LSs Jours restaurant. His secretary informed me that he wants to have lunch with you and talk over the plans for the house.”

“Hhmm, I see. Did he see my designs?”

“Yes, he did. And he loved it. You better prepare for the meeting.” Her boss told her with a fatherly smile.

“Alright, thank you, sir.” Devon said and returned the smile. She left the office and went to hers. She prepared the things she’s gonna bring and started to make new plans for the house that may be favorable to his taste.

At 11:30, she went out from the office to meet her new client and rode a taxi to the restaurant. The restaurant was always known to be an expensive luncheonette that she deduced her new client is probably a rich man and she have to admit with a very good taste too. She arrived at the restaurant around 12:00 and was welcomed by the maitre d’ and ushered her to a table in the corner. Devon noted the elegance and the classic look of the restaurant. She was looking around and was captivated of the beautifully carved cherubs in every corner of the restaurant. She was looking at a painting on the opposite wall when a familiar voice spoke. She turned and was surprised at the man standing in front of her.

“Hello. Did you wait long? I’m really sorry. The meeting ended late than I expected.”

“You! What are you doing here?” Devon asked bemused.

“I believe your boss gave you some information about me?” James asked.

“Well, he just said about someone wanting to hire me… he didn’t really gave me the name of the client.”

“That explains it.” James said with a smile and signaled the maitre d’ to give them the carte du jour for their food.

“We should eat first. Let’s talk about the preparations after.” He suggested and perused at the list of food. Devon was finding it hard to choose for everything look delicious.

“What would you like?” James asked after a while.

“I don’t really know… It’s hard to choose…” Devon said.

“Let’s just order those you really like.”

“What? No, let’s just – …”

James ignored her protest and looked at the maitre d’ and ordered food that Devon was finding hard to pronounce. Devon had a feeling he’s ordering too many, that she wondered if she will be able to finish it all. She doesn’t really like to waste food.

“We’ll have two orders of basque salad, grilled sirloin steak with béarnaise sauce, bouillabaisse soup, lamb tajine, fougasse bread, chocolate iced soufflé and frozen chocolate mouselline.” James finished.

“Would that be all, sir?”

James looked at Devon and asked her if she wants to add some more. Devon who was rather horrified by the offer immediately said no.

“Is this what you meant about seeing each other more often?” Devon asked.

“Yes.” James smiled mischievously.

They waited for their food and talked about Devon’s job. They were talking about her past clients when the food arrived. She was astounded by the different delicious cuisines that were brought to their table.

“James, it’s too many.”

“I want you to taste them. And I want to know what you would like, in case we’ll go out. For business that is.” He clarified upon seeing her reaction.

They ate their food and James is still asking about her but now it’s about her life, her childhood, her friends and her family.

“They’re delicious. Thank you for this wonderful lunch.” Devon said and was even more surprised that they were able to finish their food.

“You’re welcome. I’m glad you liked it.” He said smiling and looking at her rather affectionately. They continued their discussion about the things needed to be done for the house. James gave her his plan about the house, what changes he wants and what color to use. Devon took some notes about it and gave him alternatives for the designs.

They finished late in the afternoon. James escorted her to the office and arranged another meeting for the following day. For five consecutive days they’ve been seeing each other and talked about the house but mostly James would take her to some wonderful places instead.

They were walking around the park, ice cream on their hands and were just talking randomly.

“By the way, have you received Ivan’s invitation?” James asked and took a lick of his ice cream.

“Hhmm? What invitation?”

“He’s having a launching of their new jewelries. I bet your friends also received invitations. I guess you’ll receive it later today.”

They walked around the park and just watch the scenery.

Devon checked her mail box and indeed it was an invitation from Ivan. She saw a note inside the envelope that read: Wear your best.

She went to her room and checked some dresses that would be appropriate for the occasion this Saturday. She was excited for she knew James will be there. In the past few days, she had to admit that she has fallen for him.

I want to look my best, Devon thought happily.

Saturday night…

Everyone looked at the woman ascending the stairs. She was beautiful. Her hair was down with intricate curls at the end. She looked elegant with her red long dress that seemed to flow near her thighs and the upper fitted like her second skin. It showed how well-proportioned she is. It looks simple yet elegant. She slowly entered the room where the party was held and looked around. She was looking for him.

Devon walked near where the drinks were displayed. She stiffened when someone held her by the waist and felt a man’s body lean over her.
